Galerie Duret is pleased to announce the permanent acquisition of Nicolas Dubreuille's unique sculptural work “Untitled Ref (366)” by the Public Village of Flossmoor, located on the outskirts of Chicago. This acquisition marks a significant moment for contemporary art in the region.
Implanted at the heart of a traffic circle on Argyle, this outdoor sculpture stands proudly on a pre-existing plinth, offering a remarkable visual spectacle. Its strategic, high-traffic location allows locals, passers-by and tourists alike to immerse themselves in its unique, lively aesthetic.
The sculpture, made entirely of aluminum, is a deep, intense shade of violet. Its impressive dimensions, 192 x 116 x 130 cm, testify to Nicolas Dubreuille's ambition and creativity. Although the French artist initially envisaged a work exceeding five meters, he adapted his plans to better fit the exhibition space.
Dubreuille's work fuses painting and sculpture, incorporating geometric elements to create a resolutely contemporary piece. It represents a first for the Flossmoor Sculpture Garden Programs. “One of the characteristics of Dubreuille's work is a combination that almost oscillates between abstraction and figuration,” explains Burrows. ‘You'll want to join one of our sculptural walks to learn more about how this work integrates elements of painting and sculpture; how it's rhythmic, minimalist, and even humorous in a pop-art way,’ Jalyn Edwards points out.
The garden, which is open to the public free of charge, invites everyone to discover this work.
